The Philippines: Impact of copyright rules on access to education - June 2009

This report provides supplementary information on The Philippines 3rd and 4th consolidated reports on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. It discusses the impact of the copyright rules on the affordability of text books and the enjoyment of the right to education. Stringent copyright rules tend to increase the prices on books and hamper access to education. Therefore, it is very important that domestic legislation provides sufficient flexibilities to ensure access to text books and other teaching materials for all Filipino children and students.
