Mureke Dusome (“Let’s Read”) is a four-year, community-focused literacy project in Rwanda that aims to improve children’s literacy skills by encouraging and supporting reading outside of school. Mureke Dusome is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is implemented by Save the Children in collaboration with local partners, Umuhuza and Urunana DC.

This report describes the endline results of an impact evaluation of Mureke Dusome which took place in 2016- 2017 and involved a literacy knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) survey across 73 communities. The main research questions for the endline analysis were:

  1. What are parents’ and children’s levels of literacy KAP after one year of programming?
  2. Do literacy knowledge, attitudes, and/or practices differ statistically between the intervention and comparison groups?
  3. Within the intervention group, are changes in caregivers and children’s literacy KAP correlated with their level of exposure to and/or level of participation in Mureke Dusome?
