A world without hunger is unfortunately still a dream. Despite the work of many and the progress made in recent years, the number of malnourished people has grown. Mothers and children continue to be the most vulnerable to malnutrition. In 2017, 151 million children under the age of five suffered from chronic malnutrition. Every year, malnutrition is the cause of about half of child deaths, or almost 2.5 million children in the world, five every minute. Poverty, natural disasters caused by climate change and conflicts dangerously slow down the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda.

In many countries, rural areas and the poorest sections of the population are more likely to fail to reach the goals set by the Sustainable Development Goals. A decisive change of course is needed on global level if millions of mothers and children are to be guaranteed a present and a dignified future.

The report intends to bring light to the deep and multi-factorial link between child malnutrition and climate change, conflict, and poverty.
