This report examines the results of a student background survey and reading assessment conducted in 2013 and 2014. The survey and reading assessment covered 1307 grade 2 learners throughout 84 schools in the 3 areas of El Salvador for 2013. In 2014 the survey and reading assessment the evaluation was conducted with the same children who were assessed in the first evaluation.

The participating schools in the assessment came from 44 Save the Children’s Literacy Boost schools and 40 comparison schools. The Literacy Boost program includes teacher training, community reading activities, and age-appropriate local language material creation to support emergent literacy skills among early-grade children.
