Save the Children UK

Save the Children carried out research in 2003 into the views and experiences of over 70 young children, aged 4-10 years, living in Wales. The report includes children’s accounts of what it feels like to be smacked and their ideas about how smacking might be prevented. The children were consulted as part of the contribution of the National Assembly of Wales to the UK consultation on ‘Protecting Children, Supporting Parents’, conducted in 2000 and extended over the next two years. The report also includes an overview of the legal situation at the time and the prevalence of physical punishment of children in Wales.
