Save the Children

Save the Children organized an international conference on the “Implementation of Positive Discipline in Schools and Kindergartens” in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 20-22 May 2013 in collaboration with educational groups and organizations.

Mongolia ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990 and General Comment 8 in 2006. Although an amendment to Mongolian Law on Education prohibits the use of corporal punishment in schools, corporal punishment against children still occurs in Mongolia in various settings, including the home and others.

The conference brought together experts and professionals working on ending physical and humiliating punishment of children and promoting positive discipline across the Asian region. The forum was able to strengthen participants’ knowledge and understanding of positive discipline approaches and components in terms of national-level policy, to implement it in homes, schools, kindergartens, and teacher training institutes in Mongolia.
