Hidden Violence: Preventing and responding to sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of adolescent boys: a briefing paper by MenCare

This document summarizes results from the report Hidden Violence: Preventing and responding to sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of adolescent boys, Case Studies and Directions for Action, which was prepared by Promundo for the Oak Foundation.

This document begins by highlighting the current literature on sexual exploitation and abuse of adolescent boys. Key terms and concepts are also given definitions. It follows with international project experiences featuring a case study produced in Nicaragua.

It is not the attention of this document to minimize the experiences of girls and women. Rather, Promundo and MenCare seek to apply a gender lens to boys’ experiences of sexual violence and exploitation to both raise attention of the issue and to improve prevention and protection efforts.
