UK leadership on aid has contributed to improving the education, health, sanitation and other essential public services in many of the world’s poorest countries. To build on these gains and maintain our country’s reputation as a world-class donor, it is vital that the next government continues the commitment to the UN target of spending 0.7% of national income on aid and sticks to the rules laid down by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on what spending counts as aid.
