The Genesis and Spirit of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 25 Years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

Written by Professor Kirsten Sandburg, Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, this essay presents some of the events that led up to the writing and ratifying of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Sandburg then continues by describing the CRC and the unforeseen global developments (technological developments, environmental changes, political conflicts) that require new and innovative ways to ensure that the CRC achieves children’s rights for all of the world’s children.

This essay was published to mark the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
