This implementation research utilized quantitative and qualitative approaches to capture the outcomes of care for small babies and the perceptions of care by mothers, fathers, other caregivers, and facility providers. The information gathered from providers that implement Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) has helped identify what is working well across a range of areas, including training, supervision and what would provide an enabling environment for mothers and families to provide KMC. Where there are gaps, potential context-specific solutions that could be applied beyond Taunggyi have been discussed. Information gathered from mothers and other family members has highlighted aspects of support to facilitate adherence to recommended KMC practices at facility and encouraging completion of follow-up after discharge.
