This report investigates the relationships between poverty, migration, and child well-being in the An Giang province of Viet Nam. Internal, rural-to-urban migration exists in Viet Nam and, coupled with a complex household registration system, has resulted in many illegal, young migrants with limited access to social services.

Although increased migration and a growing economy have been linked to a variety of positive outcomes for children, this report finds that – in some contexts – migration may increase vulnerability for children. Lack of adequate housing, inadequate physical and emotional care, and limited access to education are considered some of the risks for these children.
