Save the Children Sweden

Save the Children Sweden and Save the Children in Uganda commissioned a study on the status of Physical and Humiliating Punishment in Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda respectively. This document summarises the studies conducted on physical and humiliating punishments of children in these four countries as a contribution to the UN Secretary General’s Study on Violence against Children. Physical and humiliating punishment is too common and widely tolerated in Eastern and Central Africa and in some circumstances permitted by the law of the land. The report reveals the origins of the practice and provides sufficient information on the consequence.
