Save the Children Sweden

Save the Children Sweden and the Swedish organization UR have together completed a study among teachers of unaccompanied children, children seeking asylum and who are unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. The survey was answered by 348 teachers and provides a glimpse of the situation for these teachers as well as insight into the experiences of other teachers of unaccompanied children.

The analysis of the survey shows that many teachers experience limited support from school principles and school councils. Many do not have any guidelines or routines for working with unaccompanied children. Access to translators, dealing with attitudes, and other related needs of unaccompanied children are presented and discussed.

The findings of this study will hopefully lead to discussion around the education and teaching needs of unaccompanied children, as well as the schools responsibility for these children.
