In these times of economic crisis, decisions are being made that directly affect the wellbeing of children. Children are not responsible for the crisis, yet they are the most vulnerable to these situations. Guaranteeing children’s right to protection against all forms of violence is more important than ever, however, the implementation of Spain’s new austerity measures are posing a series of threats to children and their families due to overall budget contractions that have affected the social sector.
This document contains a number of proposals by UNICEF-Spain and Save the Children to be addressed during the 2013 State of the Nation’s debate at the Spanish Parliament, aimed at preventing and tackling poverty to stop violence against children in Spain. It proposes the adoption of a comprehensive law specific to violence against children and common minimum standards at all levels of government to protect children from all forms of abuse.
