COVID-19 and Conflict Sensitivity
As organizations plan their response to the COVID-19 pandemic in fragile contexts it is essential to use a conflict-sensitive approach. Considering the conflict dynamics will reduce attacks on treatment centers, resistance to health guidelines, and avoid the build-up of new social tension.
In this brief World Vision and Search for Common Ground list three concerns about COVID-19 interventions in conflict contexts:
- Interventions may not reach vulnerable groups in societies with high mistrust
- The role of children and young people will not be incorporated in responses
- Poor COVID-19 interventions can lead to further social divisions
The brief shares a range of recommendations to reduce these risks, to promote peace, and effectively work with authorities in fragile/conflict contexts.
