Country risk reduction profile: Disaster Risk Reduction in Colombia

Colombia is prone to regular disasters such as flooding, droughts, hurricanes and tropical storms. Natural hazards continue to cause deaths, injuries and economic loss every year and severely affect the lives of children. Between 2007-2008 Save the Children introduced a Disaster Risk Reduction programme for non formal education for children and youth affected by conflict and natural disasters in Cartagena and surrounding areas, directly benefiting 1800 children.
