There are estimated to be 285 million child brides in South Asia. Child marriages can result in serious violations of human rights as it prevents the child from having a childhood where it can play and be protected. Although the child marriage rates are decreasing in the region, this process is threatened to be undermined by the vulnerability and insecurity that comes with humanitarian crises. By combining and analyzing the findings from research with conflict-affected Rohingya refugees from Myanmar residing in Bangladesh, and earthquake-affected communities in Nepal this report aims to spread wider knowledge on child marriage in humanitarian settings.
