Save the Children

A case study on Save the Children’s support to the Office of the Commissioner for Children within the Zambian Human Rights Commission. Independent national human rights institutions are important mechanisms to promote and hold governments’ accountable to fulfill children’s rights. To this end, specialist human rights institutions for children, ombudspersons or commissioners for children’s rights, have been established in a growing number of countries. In Zambia, a Human Rights Commission was established in 1996, but with a limited focus on children’s rights. Save the Children has worked with the Human Rights Commission to strengthen its capacity to promote and monitor children’s rights.
