Armed Conflicts and National Trends in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in Sub-Saharan Africa: What can national health surveys tell us?

This report seeks to assess the long term consequences of armed conflict for national progress in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH). This is done through an examination of national surveys conducted in 13 countries in sub-Saharan Africa with major conflicts between 1990-2016. The research suggests that in most countries there is a negative correlation between armed conflicts and national indicators of RMNCH service coverage, child growth, and under-5 mortality.
