The 2017 Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict Report reveals an alarming increase in grave violations against children—21,000 verified occurences in the last year alone (compared to 15,500 in 2016). Children in conflict areas in the Central African Republic (CAR), the Congo, Myanmar, South Sudan, Syria, and Yemen have been especially vulnerable to the grave violations.

Trends show a lack of disregard for international law on the behalf of conflicting parties and carelessness in taking appropriate measures to protect children from the dangers of armed conflict.
