Annual Report 2011: Fundação Abrinq – Save the Children

The Fundação Abrinq – Save the Children 2011 Report summarises the nature of its activities in 2011 and sheds light on developments that have been pushed forward in the course of the year. 2011 began with the creation of an Emergency Response Project ensuring the protection of approximately 250 children in Espaços Seguros (Safe Spaces), in response to the deadliest weather-related natural disaster in Brazilian history that took place in several towns of the Mountainous Region in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. The initiative benefited about 9000 children and young people, with the donation of necessities kits and school kits to encourage them to go back to school. Various activities and initiatives also took place in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil aimed at increasing the access to public healthcare, nutrition, education and protection services for the most vulnerable and marginalized population groups. Among the events held in 2011, special mention is given to the 2nd Brazilian Congress on the Rights of Children and Adolescents held in Brasilia in November 2011, with focus on child survival, protection on the occasion of the sports events, and the National Education Plan, which establishes the 20 educational goals that Brazil is to attain within the next ten years.
