World Vision Disaster Risk Reduction Toolkit: Annex A – Sample of Hazard Maps.
What is a Hazard Map?
The purpose of a hazard map is to illustrate the possible dangers of an area and to make them known to residents. Hazard maps cannot stop a disastrous phenomenon, but they can help decrease the degree of impact on individuals and communities by providing people with understandable and clear information on the extent of possible harm. Disaster prevention activities can then be designed and implemented based on the likelihood and consequences of potential disasters. Sample of hazard maps are included in this Annex
