What the Girls Say: Improving practices to reintegrate girls in DRC

Girls associated with armed groups suffer extreme hardship within the ranks, as well as when they leave the armed group and return to their communities. Furthermore, Release, Recover, and Reintegration programmes are are few and often underfunded. Hence, girls are unlikely to leave armed groups, and those who do, do not receive the assistance they need.

This report presents the findings of an assessment of the effectiveness of release, psychosocial recovery and reintegration interventions (referred to as ‘DDR’) for girls associated with armed groups in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The study was completed through interviews with these girls, local officials, community leaders, and local child protection specialists in the region.
