Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schoo (WinS) is a global movement to improve hygiene facilities in schools. The burden to improve WASH facilities commonly falls on the Ministry of Education. In 2016, the Department of Education in the Philippines adopted a new order, Policy, and Guidelines for the Comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools Program. In tandem with this, a WinS Monitoring system was created to support the management of WinS along with clear guidelines for doing so.
In order to support the aspect of operation and maintenance/management (O&M) of WinS facilities, valuable experiences and learnings have been captured in this manual and will support schools with practical approaches on how to improve the usability of school toilets.
