Vulnerabilities Assessment & Barriers to Education in Conflict-Affected Communities (Yemen, 2026)

This assessment underscores the growing education and protection crisis facing conflict-affected and displaced children in Aden, Lahj, and Taiz, where prolonged conflict, displacement, disability, and economic hardship continue to prevent children from accessing their right to education.
Surveying 2,225 households and 4,933 school-age children, the study found that nearly two-thirds of children (63%) are out of school, including 1,583 who have never enrolled and 1,287 who have dropped out, while 62.4% of surveyed families are displaced and most survive on extremely low and unstable incomes. The findings reveal a multidimensional humanitarian crisis in which poverty, child labor, displacement, disability, and limited access to services are mutually reinforcing barriers to education.
The assessment highlights the urgent need for integrated education, protection, disability inclusion, and livelihood interventions, emphasizing that without immediate action, thousands of children risk permanent exclusion from learning and increased exposure to exploitation and long-term poverty.
