Vulnérabilités et violences faites aux enfants: Rapport de synthèse 2011 – Côte d’Ivoire

2011 summary annual report on vulnerabilities and child rights violations in Côte d’Ivoire, prepared by he Child Protection Sub-Cluster in Côte d’Ivoire, with the support of UNICEF, Save the Children and UNFPA. Children have been greatly affected by the post-conflict situation in Côte d’Ivoire and destroyed education and health infrastructure, coupled with an increase in violence and sexual assaults, are some of the consequences. The report reveals that under-15 children account for the highest percentage of reported victims of rights violations, which can be directly linked to the deteriorating political-military situation and the sharp uptick in violence in March/April 2011 in war risk areas. Data shows that 1389 cases of violations of women’s and children’s rights were reported in 2011. Out of the 514 reported sexual assault cases 82,5% involve rape, with 80% of the victims of sexual violence being female. Of the 793 child rape victims, 264 were victims of sexual violence perpetrated by armed men, representing 33,3% of all reported rape cases.
