Save the Children Mozambique
Background and objectives
With financial support from Global Affairs Canada, Save the Children implemented the Ungumi project in 2018-2022 in response to the significant sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) needs of adolescent girls and boys in Zambézia province, Mozambique, where poverty levels are particularly high and health outcomes particularly poor. The project was implemented in 43 communities across three districts of Zambézia: Morrumbala, Milange and Derre. The project aimed to foster improved SRHR for adolescents by improving access to and quality of information and services, and transforming harmful gender norms and power imbalances between girls and boys, women and men.
Methods
This was a mixed methods endline (EL) evaluation study which collected both quantitative data (via a structured household survey and a health facility assessment) and qualitative data (via focus group discussions (FGDs) and key informant interviews (KIIs)). The primary study population was male and female adolescents aged between 10 and 19 years within the three districts. The study also covered key influencers: parents/caregivers, health facility staff, District health staff, teachers, and community and religious leaders.
