Une Sonnette d’Alarme: Les enseignements tirés de l’épidémie d’Ebola pour les systèmes de santé du monde entier

When the Ebola crisis first broke out in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, it was not contained because national health systems were severely lacking personnel, equipment, and resources to prevent its spread. Une Sonnette d’Alarme calls for us to take a closer look at the lessons learned from the outbreak in these countries, not only for the countries in question, but also for national health systems elsewhere that are failing.

The new Health Access Index ranks countries according to their expenditure in the health sector, the number of professionals in the health sector, health coverage for mothers and children, and corresponding mortality rates. It shows that Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea, are far from the only nations suffering from weak health systems. This report shows how we can cope with the crisis of weak health care systems in the poorest countries. It suggests how to close the funding gap to make quality health care accessible for everyone.
