Towards a Gender Just Future: The role of gender programming in advancing gender equality in Somalia

This report explores Save the Children Somalia’s comprehensive approach and our progress towards gender equality for all in Somalia especially women, and girls. it highlights the organization’s strategic interventions aimed at empowering women and girls, fostering systemic change, and creating sustainable impacts in thematic areas such as education, child survival, economic empowerment, and climate resilience.
This document not only reflects on achievements but also underscores the persistent challenges in achieving gender equity, particularly in a context marked by political instability, climate change, and cultural resistance. Through evidence-based approaches, thematic programming, and collaborations with local NGOs and international partners, Save the Children has made strides in advancing women’s rights and combating harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and child marriage.
