Save the Children Sweden
A first national Swedish survey of children and young people who see no other solution to difficult domestic situations than to run away from home – either on their own initiative or because parents who are unable to assume their responsibilities throw them out. The survey, conducted by Sara Högdin and Yvonne Sjöblom on behalf of Save the Children Sweden and sponsored by Allmänna arvsfonden (General Inheritance Fond), has been answered by 3000 high school students. A complementary field study added the perceptions of school counselors regarding the problem of runaway children and youth. This report seeks to approach the problems and issues associated with runaway children through policy recommendations for national and local authorities.
