Think smart: Giving rural children access to basic education

This book is about Save the Children and the Amhara Regional Education Bureau’s approach to Alternative Basic Education (ABE) in the Amhara region, Ethiopia. Alternative Basic Education addresses the many obstacles rural children face when it comes to school access. The introduction of Alternative Basic Education in Amhara region means that today, a quarter of a million children attend ABE schools in
the region. Before, these children had no access to basic education. There was no school within reach. This book is intended to be a source of inspiration for people around the world who are in a position to make a difference in the education of children. Because if Education for All is to become a reality, we need to explore creative ways to get children into schools. We need to think smart.
