Global data indicates that the last decade’s natural disasters occurred more frequently compared to the past and were more destructive. It’s important that the response phase of natural disasters is enhanced at all levels, and there is a need for an increased recognition that the ultimate aim of natural disaster management strategies should be to reduce the vulnerability of local communities. This report provides information about the Food and Agriculture Organizations programme “The role of local level institutions in reducing vulnerability to natural disasters”.
