The Support to Education for Refugees in Dadaab (SERD) contributes to Save the Children’s global education strategy – “All children learn from a quality basic education” and was implemented between December 2012 and December 2015. The specific objective of SERD was to ensure the right to education is realized for children and young adults in the Dadaab refugee camps and the host community. The objectives of this project have been largely fulfilled and the case studies and testimonials show what impact it has had on children and young people living in Dadaab. However, a lot remains to be done to ensure that all the children in Dadaab access their right to education.
Dadaab refugee camp is home to over 330,000 refugees, of whom close to 60% are children and youth under the age of 18. Funded by the European Commission, SERD aimed to achieve the following results:
