This report summarizes the outcome of the West and Central Africa Regional Workshop on Children Without Appropriate Care held in Dakar, Senegal , 6-9 December 2011, arranged by Save the Children’s Child Protection Initiative in collaboration with the Save the Children UK regional office. The training workshop was aimed at Save the Children staff members and partners already working on programmes to support Children without Appropriate Care (CwAC), or who may begin work in this area. Workshop sessions drew upon findings from the mapping undertaken by 9 countries within the West & Central Africa region to understand the meaning, the causes and the impact of CwAC in the area. As a result of this workshop, participants developed national, regional and global action plans to take forward strategic and programmatic work on children without appropriate care, which includes strengthening alternative family-based care, reducing use of institutional care and other measures.
