Save the Children
In Cambodia, children continue to face violence in a variety of settings, including within their own families. Violence in the form of physical punishment, such as beating, is especially common. Corporal punishment of children by their parents remains legal in Cambodia. The Civil Code allows parents and caregivers “to personally discipline the child to the necessary extent.”
This pamphlet describes a project for August 2013 to July 2017 that will train caregivers in positive parenting, including nonviolent discipline. Village volunteers will also be trained and given support to maintain groups for both mothers and fathers that will provide information and constant support on positive discipline.
