A strategic approach: HIV and AIDS and Education

This document updates the 2003 Joint UNAIDS IATT on Education publication. It presents a strategic vision of the important role that education must play in addressing HIV, identifies key priorities for responding to HIV/AIDS through education, puts forward two central objectives for education response and outlines how the response should be tailored to the local epidemiological situation and other contextual factors.
The strategic framework presented in this document speaks to the needs of all of those involved in planning, implementing and assessing the education sector’s response to the AIDS epidemic. Based on what is known, it presents priority actions that should be central to all education sector responses to prevent HIV infection and to mitigate the impact of AIDS.
