This briefing was developed as part of a series on child marriage and accountability showcasing lessons-learned from Save the Children programming around the world. It details work with girls who have survived child marriage in the Sahel Region. The region spans parts of Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Sudan, and Eritrea and includes countries with some of the highest rates of child marriage in the world. While instability poses new and increasing challenges for adolescents in the region, girls like Edith from Burkina Faso (featured in this briefing) are sharing their stories and acting as role models for how young people can achieve and work to shape their countries’ futures even in the most difficult circumstances.
