This policy brief looks at the important role social protection has to play in tackling child mortality. Evidence shows that social protection policies can help tackle child mortality most immediately by reducing malnutrition and poor health. Social protection policies are, therefore, critical to child survivalefforts in countries with high rates of child and maternal mortality. This policy brief outlines: the definition and rationale of social protection; Save the Children’s position in key debates; and recommendations for effective programme.
