The Hunger Alliance

This briefing paper is published by the Hunger Alliance, a coalition of charities, including Save the Children. The briefing highlights the huge nutritional benefits that can be brought about by supporting the millions of women farming small plots of land in developing countries. Helping women grow more food in their back gardens could be a ‘game changer’ in the fight against global hunger.

The extensive review included long-term quantitative analysis on how smallholder agricultural development and other variables contribute towards tackling hunger in Bangladesh, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, and in Kerala in India. It also analysed interventions in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, Philippines, Mali and Zimbabwe, and micro-nutrient and health-focused programmes in Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi and Tanzania.
