Youth with a Green Mindset are aware of the world’s most challenging environmental problems, including climate change, their personal impact, and they are motivated to take action to find solutions in their personal, professional, and civic lives. Youth with a Green Mindset understand that they can together make big environmental impacts with small actions in their daily lives. By developing a Green Mindset, youth will grow their ability to be more mindful of their present and future impact on the environment; and will become motivated to create a sustainable world for their future and the future of their community.

The Skills to Succeed(S2S) program equips young women and men, who experience the most inequality and discrimination, with employability, technical and green skills to successfully pursue decent work and economic growth. Furthermore, these young women and men will be equipped with the attitudes, knowledge, and values to develop a sustainable and resource-efficient society. This aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #8, “Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all”.

The knowledge, skills, and attitudes that youth adopt for a Green Mindset give them the power to have an active role in the transition to a just and sustainable world. Youth who develop a Green Mindset are better prepared to capitalize on the opportunities created by the green economy and reclaim their right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment as a human right. A Green Mindset can transform how youth think about employability skills by bringing their awareness to the importance of environmental sustainability within jobs and in business. We see having a Green Mindset as a critical priority for youth in the S2S program. It enhances our existing employability skills training by better preparing youth for future employment opportunities and introducing new pathways to green jobs.

The S2S green mindset framework toolkit consists of Eight Key sections. The introduction section briefly explains the needs and importance of green mindset for youth in the context of the S2S program. Section two describes the S2S Definition of Green Skills, Green Jobs, and Green Mindset. Section three includes the overview of the green mindset framework in three phases: Phase 1- Eco literacy; Phase 2- Environmental Problems; and Phase 3. Environmental Solutions with a Focus on Action in the different areas of a young person’s life. Section four captures the full curriculum framework for the green mindset. Section five and six consists of the Guidelines/tools/ for the Adaptation of the Green Mindset Curriculum Outline, and for the Roll Out of the Green Mindset Framework respectively. Section seven and Eight depicts Examples of Green Mindset Framework Indicators; and Recommendations for Integrating the Green Mindset Framework into TVET Curriculums.
