Sexual exploitation and abuse by aid workers and peacekeepers is severely under-reported. People don’t speak out because they feel afraid, powerless or simply don’t trust the system. Despite efforts to combat it, the problem persists. UN agencies, donors and NGOs need to take a comprehensive and coordinated approach to protect children, punish perpetrators and eradicate this appalling abuse of power. This report looks at: the nature and scale of the problem; why the abuse is happening and why it’s under-reported; what the UN and NGOs are doing to combat the problem; and, what more Save the Children is calling for.
