During 2018, 36.1 million children were international migrants. Migrating children are exposed to an increased risk of being subjected to violence, sexual violence, exploitation and human trafficking, especially when migrating unaccompanied. These risks are exacerbated by limited access to safe migration pathways, services and justice. When reaching a destination country they might face other difficulties such as discrimination and limited access to basic services, making them vulnerable to sale and sexual exploitation. This brief highlights the key issues concerning migrating children and the risk of sexual exploitation.
