The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the education of millions of children globally. When a child falls behind in their learning, it can have a devastating impact on their future life chances –and the impact is even greater for the most marginalised children. Some children may never have been in school, while others may have intermittent access, be at risk of dropping out, or have dropped out already. To help these children return to learning, we need to know who is out of school and why, but data is often incomplete, outdated, of variable quality, or non-existent.
This quick guide includes a list of topics, and other key information, to consider when you develop your situational analysis tool. The topics relate to how many children are out of school, who they are, and why they are disconnected from learning.
