This is a desk study examining the laws that address juvenile justice in South Sudan and how to better incorporate the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The study primarily looked into the Penal Code (2003) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (2003) of South Sudan and how they compare to the international standards on juvenile justice as enshrined in the UNCRC and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children (ACRWC). This review is just one step in the process towards ensuring children who are victims of crimes and children who are accused of committing crimes are treated fairly and respectfully within the juvenile justice system in South Sudan. The report makes a series of recommendations on ways to make the Penal Code and Code of Criminal Responsibility more child rights based.
