This is the first report of the Secretary-General to the UN Security Council and its Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict on the situation of children and armed conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic.
The report highlights how children are effected, both directly and indirectly, by the conflict. This includes multiple abuses, killings, and maiming of children by the military as well as the obstruction of children’s access to education and health services.
Limitations to effective monitoring and verification inhibit the country task force from reporting on violations against children within the Syrian Arab Republic. The report concludes with recommendations on how to halt violations and increase the protection of children affected by the conflict.
