Reference Guide on Protecting the Rights of Child Victims of Trafficking in Europe

In response to reports of child trafficking within and from South Eastern Europe, UNICEF developed a set of “Guidelines for Protection of the Rights of Child Victims of Trafficking in South Eastern Europe” (2003). These guidelines were intended  to clarify procedures for child protection agencies when dealing with children believed to have been trafficked.

This Reference Guide is meant as a practical tool for policy makers and practitioners responsible for child protection in Europe. It provides information about the steps and procedures that constitute ‘good practice’ in the protection and assistance of child victims of trafficking. A lot of additional information is provided in this guide: tools for professionals (such as checklists); clear descriptions of procedures; a full text of UNICEF’s Guidelines, as well as other European conventions and protocols, are included in the annexes.
