This two part guide offers guidance to practitioners working with children. It is designed to help staff develop their own best practice and pilot new ways of involving children. Participation is about children having the opportunity to express their views, influence decision-making and achieve change. Participation is a way of working and it is an essential principle that should be applied to all arenas – from homes to government, from local to international levels. The publication offers advice on ways for practitioners to support children’s meaningful involvement in the governance, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of their work. It is divided into two sections: Part 1 provides an introduction to children’s participation in practice. Part 2 comprises a set of separate guides focusing on specific themes: governance, advocacy, fundraising, recruitment, media and communications, and emergencies.
