This booklet introduces the problem of conflict-related threats to education and possible responses. It includes country-specific case studies highlighting attacks on education in Pakistan, Iraq, Democratic Republic of Congo and Thailand, and an overview of the laws that protect education from attack. It is designed for use as part of a series of eight booklets produced as part of the Protecting Education in Conflict-Affected Countries Programme, undertaken by Save the Children on behalf of the Education Cluster. The series can be used by education practitioners dealing with education security, protection, psychosocial support and legal accountability issues, and includes tools for use in training staff in protecting education in conflict-affected countries. A supplementary booklet, Curriculum Resource: Introducing Humanitarian Education in Primary and Junior Secondary Schooling, can also be used in conjunction with booklet 6.
