The book explores the experience of one primary school in trying to make the promises of rights a reality. It is an honest account that does not skirt around any hesitations and concerns that have arisen. But the general outcome is a positive one with significant impacts on practical issues such as bullying, and respect for the rights of children who are different from the norm. The school is also described as being more peaceful, with fewer discipline problems, and as having better relationships between pupils and staff.
