Save the Children
Thailand has passed a major amendment to Section 1567 of the Civil and Commercial Code, fully banning all forms of corporal and psychological punishment of children in all settings that include homes, schools, daycare centers, juvenile institutions, and more.
Save the Children played a pioneering role in this achievement. Beginning in 2003, as part of its global effort to end all corporal punishment of children – a major contribution to the UN Secretary General Global Study on Violence against Children – the organization was the first to introduce in the Asia Pacific region, including Thailand, the children’s rights imperative to prohibit corporal punishment in all settings and the need to mainstream the promotion and use of positive discipline and non-violent child-rearing frameworks. Over the years, Save the Children led and sustained advocacy and lobbying efforts, building coalitions with local NGOs including CRC Coalitions, engaging with academics and government stakeholders.
